The people of Trinidad & Tobago have demonstrated once again a spirit of charity and love and raised more than a million dollars needed for a child's life-saving surgery.
Hanna Lendor, 9, who lives in Sea Lots with her family, needs a liver transplant that cannot be done in Trinidad.
Her family does not have the resources to fund the operation abroad and for the care she would require after the surgery.
So two months ago a nationwide appeal for help to save the child's life went out.
On Friday the Trinidad Express reported that the fund for Hanna had reached $1,342,208.01, which is enough to pay the bills and provide accommodation for her mom for five months while the child recuperates.
The surgery was originally scheduled for last month in Venezuela. Now with the funds available the hope is for the surgery to be done at private children's hospital in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
The cost for the procedure in Argentina is estimated at $1 million.
Hanna's mom has expressed her heartfelt thanks to everyone who helped.
We also offer our thanks to our people who have demonstrated that the hearts of Trinis are still in the right place.
