Warner congratulates new cricket chief

Jack Warner has written Azim Bassarath offering congratulations on his election over the weekend as the new President of the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board.

Bassarath led a team called the “Movement of Change” that made a clean sweep of nearly all the top TTCB posts, taking 10 of the 11 positions contested overall.

The election removed high profile Trinidad & Tobago Cricket Board president Deryck Murray. The West Indies vice-captain, who has led the TTCB for the last four years, lost to Bassarath by three votes.

"It is indeed an honour for me to have recognized your dedication and devotion to the development of the game of cricket and your sterling leadership in its administration," the Chaguanas MP said in a letter to Bassarath.

"I am extremely confident that the vivacity you have shown at the zonal and club level will be brought to the national table and bring back life to the game of cricket right here in Trinidad and Tobago," he added.

"I am convinced that if anyone can take Trinidad and Tobago’s cricket to the top and keep it there you can," Warner said.

"Cricket not only in Trinidad and Tobago but also in the West Indies is troubled and at this time there is need for a steady hand; one that is calm, a conciliator who is determined to unite all factions with a view to make cricket the winner. You my friend are the quintessence of that one.

"In that regard, I offer you my sincere congratulations and wish you well as you take hold of the mantle of Presidency.

"Change has won and change will surely win again. Congratulations my friend," Warner wrote.
