Letter: Kamla's betrayal

Kamla Persad Bissessar has once more dashed the hopes of a lot of women in this country.

After her famous no woman no cry speech at Mid Center Mall in 2007 we all felt the emergence of a strong woman who will positively impact on the leadership in politics.

Notwithstanding her being frequently sidelined by Basdeo Panday, women felt that the strategic timing of Kamla's presence at the COP congress signaled the beginning of a unity process.

Her unparalleled popularity at her own party's gathering was indeed a refreshing revelation and when she agreed to attend the 'axe the tax' rally at Woodford Square she did in fact bring more hope.

Alas Kamla has done a disservice to all women by showing that she is all about lipstick and powder and a charming smile.

Her all too often capitulation to the sound and fury of Basdeo Panday will forever consign her to the position of bridesmaid and never of bride.

Shame on you Kamla for your ever too often betrayal!
