Dominica election set for December 18

Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit announced Thursday night that Dominicans will go to the polls on December 18, and urged his supporters to give his Dominica Labour Party (DLP) a mandate to govern for another five years.

Nomination Day would be on December 2.

"I am confident that you the good people of Dominica will return the DLP with a resounding landslide victory," the prime minister said.

The DLP won 12 seats in the last general election on May 5, 2005. The main opposition United Workers Party (UWP) won other eight seats and an independent won the other seat in the 21-seat legislature.
