TT$42M for VIP vehicles

The government of Trinidad and Tobago has paid TT$42 million for luxury vehicles for the two international conferences in 2009.

More than 100 vehicles were imported for the April Summit of the Americas and another 97 have arrived for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM), which is scheduled for November in Port of Spain.

Philip Knaggs, president of the Automotive Dealers Association of Trinidad and Tobago, told the Trinidad Express Wednesday local dealers handed over the VIP vehicles to the Government at the end of August.

He said the vehicles are: Toyota Prados, Hyundai Santa Fes and Mazda 6. The SUV's and cars will be used for the CHOGM heads and their delegations for their two-day conference after which they will be transferred to various government ministries and state corporations.
