Well-known advertising executive Astra Da Costa died Thursday of complications related to the the Swine Flu virus. She was 62.
Da Costa has become the third H1N1 victim in Trinidad and Tobago.
Da Costa was in St Lucia last month and became ill shortly after her return on September 26.
She was admitted to a private hospital and was transferred to the Port of Spain General Hospital when her condition deteriorated. She suffered cardiac arrest and died late Thursday afternoon.
Her business partner, Alfred Aguiton, told the Trinidad Express Da Costa had an underlying medical problem that caused delicate tissues in her lungs to harden. He said the Swine Flu made things worse.
Aguiton said Da Costra's contribution "was in most respects unparalleled and covered a range of social and corporate responsibilities. She turned out to be a paragon of professionalism and I don't know anyone who could have been a better partner in the profession."
He and Da Costa founded Ample Advertising in 1974 and together they made it one of the most successful agencies in the Caribbean. Da Costa was the executive chairman Ample and was also the chairman of the Queen's Hall board of directors.
