There may indeed be some Trinidadians who will be exceptionally proud of our own home grown "Jimmy Swaggart".
I, however, cannot admit to being one of them.
How can a man who has had nothing to say about the inhumane conditions exposed under which Chinese contract workers have been existing in the nation under his rule, building his very palatial residence and all those tall white elephant monuments to his rule (which have done a very effective job of depleting our Treasury - under Calder Hart no less - about whom he has had even less to say) spout the bible as justification for the unjustifiable?
He has, however, hit the nail on the head with his biblical quotation:
"If I could speak all the languages of the earth and of angels but didn’t love others I will only be a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal."
However unintentional, and is indeed no better than a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal since whom does he love?
Certainly not all those "collateral" sons and daughters of the nation killed during his tenure! As for "drunk on the Bible", we all know that he is power drunk.
One must, however, never lose sight of the fact that the devil has many faces and be guided accordingly.
