Congress of the People member Robert Mayers attended Sunday's congress of the United National Congress (UNC) at UNC Congress at Rienzi Complex and carried a message from his party.
"Let us put aside our differences of race, religion, colour, et cetera and find a common ground on higher ground," he said in a brief address to delegates.
His theme of unity won his applause from the hundreds of delegates attending the event at which the UNC passed a resolution to hold internal elections on January 28, 2010.
"When we establish a common ground and have dialogue, then the journey can begin for a better Trinidad and Tobago," Mayers said adding that it is "morally and ethically compelling that we come together and find a platform of common interest and begin meaningful discussions.
"The higher ground of brotherhood is the way forward," he stressed.
