The Editor,
Quite frankly, I am in disbelief that the Uff Commission of Enquiry is now in jeopardy as a result of non-publishing in the Gazette.
Caused either by gross incompetence, or a wilful attempt to scuttle the Enquiry from the start, it has now opened a legal Pandora’s Box.
The most pertinent consequence of this sorry debacle has to be the effect on any possible criminal proceedings.
Now that certain evidence has been given in public via an illegal commission of enquiry, would such evidence be admissible in Court? Would such evidence make for a fair trial?
I would venture to say the answer would be no to both questions.
And because this Government will not change the way it conducts business, sadly the Uff Commission of Enquiry will go down like all the PNM’s crime plans - a waste of time and taxpayers money.
