As Prime Minister Patrick Manning continuing his cross country drive to "educate" the population about his ideas for change, he told a family day gathering of his People's National Movement (PNM) in Mayaro he wants to see "maximum autonomy" for Tobago as part of constitution reform.
"We will like to see Tobago have maximum autonomy within the context of the unitary state of Trinidad and Tobago," he said, noting that the work to this end is being done in collaboration with Tobago House of Assembly.
In a speech to the friendly crow Manning outlined some of his ideas on governance and constitutional reform, pointing out that he expects to publish a green paper on constitutional reform for public comments following his 51 consultations around the country.
He also reiterated his support for economic union between Trinidad and Tobago and the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States by 2011 and political union two years later.
