The Bank of Jamaica will formally issue a new high security $5,000 banknote on Thursday.
The note will be legal tender for all monetary transactions, and will complement the existing family of banknotes of $50, $100, $500 and $1,000.
The bill will carry a portrait of the late former Prime Minster of Jamaica, Hugh Shearer, on the front. The other side features blossoms of the Frangipani and an aerial view of Highway 2000.
