A report in the Trinidad Guardian Thursday says the North Central Regional Health Authority (NCRHA) overpaid a medical doctor $844,000 over a 37-month period and is demanding that the doctor repay the money.
The paper said an internal audit picked up the accounting error in salary and allowances paid to Dr Sanju Ross Gidla between December 6, 2005 and July 31, 2009. Gilda is an obstetrician at the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex in Mt Hope.
The Guardian said NCRHA's acting general manager of Human Resources, Patrick Rousseau, wrote to Gilda on September 10, demanding the immediate repayment of $844,026.14.
The Guardian said Rousseau and Gilda have met and worked out an agreement to repay the money. However, it said the doctor insisted that the matter was not her fault and she suggested others were similarly affected.
