Police charge one suspect in attack on British couple

Trinidad and Tobago police on Friday charged a Tobago man in the brutal attack on a British couple a week ago. They say the 25-year-old Tobago man has confessed that he was involved in the attack.

The man is facing charges of attempted murder of Peter Greene, 65, and his wife Murium, 59, at their Tobago home last weekend. He will appear in court on Monday.

Police say the suspect has been in police custody since Monday but only decided to cooperate with officers after three homicide detectives from Trinidad arrived in the island to handle the investigation.

The English couple was attacked by unknown assailants around 2.30 pm a week ago, a few days after they returned to their house at Bacolet Crescent, Tobago.

Their injuries were serious enough for them to be airlifted to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex in Mt Hope for treatment. Greene is in a medically-induced coma in the Intensive Care Unit while his wife's condition is reported as stable.

Police have so far not made any breakthrough in a another high-profile crime in Tobago - the brutal murders of Swedish couple Anna Sundsval, 62, and Oke Olsoon, 73, on October 11, last ye
ar.
