Police have arrested an acting Corporal who was transferred from the St Joseph Police Station after a police team raided the station and found a cache of guns, ammunition and drugs hidden in the ceiling of the building.
The Criminal Intelligence Unit (CIU) said it raided the lawman's Arouca home Thursday and found a quantity of packaged narcotics used in court cases.
The officer has been in the service for about 16 years service and has been on continuous sick leave for the past two months. He appears in court Friday.
On Wednesday, acting Police Commissioner James Philbert declared war on corrupt officers, calling their actions "a betrayal". Philbert promised a full investigation and said he would make sure all the perpetrators are tracked down and bought to justice.
At the same time he admitted that in March last year police found drugs in the locker room at the Sangre Grande police station and that investigation is ongoing due to a delay in forensic work. The incident led to the transfer of eight officers. No one has been charged and the officers remain on active duty.
