CARIFESTA 2010 cancelled due to financial crisis

The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) has decided to invite tenders from members states to host the region's premier cultural festival, CARIFESTA, after the Bahamas advised that it cannot honour its commitment to host the event in 2010.

And so far no other country has offered to sponsor the festival.

The Bahamas officially informed CARICOM's Regional Cultural Committee last month that due to financial constraints it has no choice but to pull out of the festival. As a result the regional directors of culture took a decision to reschedule the event to June 2011 and invite interested members to submit bids to host the festival.

Seven countries have hosted CARIFESTA events so with Guyana being the last host.
