More former UNC MP's deny getting money from Warner

Former Trinidad and Tobago cabinet minister Carlos John has joined the chorus of former UNC members of Parliament who deny receiving money from Jack Warner during the period of the 18-18 tie when opposition MP's were not paid their salaries.

Former Attorney General Ramesh Lawrence Maharaj stated on a public platform that Warner paid salaries of the UNC members during that time.

But Warner himself has not commented on the matter.

John, who served as St Joseph MP during that period, told the Trinidad Express, "Nobody gave me any money. Nobody mind me." The Express said John told its reporter that he had spoken with his former Parliamentary colleague Mervyn Assam who "categorically denied Maharaj's assertion."

Last week attorney Robin Montano, a former UNC Senaator, wrote to Maharaj on behalf of former UNC MP's Gerald Yetming, Ganga Singh and Manohar Ramsaran, threatening legal action if Maharaj does not apologise publicly within 14 days. Maharaj has promised to respond to Montano's letter.

Several other MP's have also denied Maharaj's claim and have also threatened legal action.
