Grenada's Board of Tourism confirmed on Monday that it refused to allow the luxury cruise ship "OCEAN DREAM" to dock because some of the crew and passengers exhibited symptoms of Swine Flu.
The ship makes weekly stops in Grenada with more than one thousand passengers. The move has robbed the island much-needed tourism dollars but authorities say they did not want to risk of the virus spreading among the population.
Grenada is third Eastern Caribbean island to refuse entry to a cruise liner due to the virus that has affected nearly 30,000 people in 74 countries worldwide. Last week Antigua and St Lucia turned away a Royal Caribbean cruise liner.
Official statistics show there are 120 infections in the Caribbean, with 91 of them in the Dominican Republic, where the only Swine Flu death has been recorded in the region.
The Bahamas, Barbados, the Cayman Islands, British Virgin Islands, Cuba, Dominica, Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago are the other Caribbean countries listed by the UN health agency as having confirmed cases of the virus.
