Opposition Leader Basdeo Panday has written to the president of Trinidad and Tobago in response to a letter dated May 4, 2009 from the office of the president seeking Panday's comments on the proposed appointment of Addison Khan as a member of the Integrity Commission.
Panday did not respond specifically to the issue of Khan, who is a respected Attorney at Law and author, and former President of the Industrial Court of Trinidad and Tobago with over 45 years' experience and expertise in industrial relations and industrial relations law.
Instead the former prime minister's letter, dated Thursday May 7, suggests that with the resignation of three of the five members of the commission the president should begin the process.
Panday's two paragraph letter states in part: "Having regard to recent developments, to wit, the resignation of the Chairman and Deputy Chairman, I am of the respectful view that the process of the appointments to the Commission ought to begin anew so that public confidence in the new Commission may not be compromised."
