Jamaat Al Muslimeen leader Yasin Abu Bakr told the Trinidad Guardian Thursday if the state sells his 11 properties he would have to move to Woodford Square, Port of Spain with his wives and children.
The Imam is facing the prospect of losing everything he owns because of a Privy Council judgment that allows the state to sell his properties to recover about $32 million owning to the state for acts of destruction during the 1990 coup lead by Abu Bakr.
“I have no where to go. I will have no home, no job, no place to sleep, I will go to Woodford Square. I hope my friends will come and give me something to eat,” the paper quotes Bakr as saying.
Bakr has to go to court next week when it is expected the summons for the sale will come up.
He told the paper he prefers not to comment on the court matter at this time but he was quite willing to talk about an alleged deal with Prime Minister Patrick Manning that is outlined in an affidavit that was thrown out by the Privy Council
The Law Lords said it was irrelevant to the case buy added that if there was such a deal it would have amounted to a breach of the anti-corruption act by Manning.
