Obama's dream takes shape

The United States puts its past behind on Tuesday and makes a bold stride forward with the inauguration of Barack Obama as its 44th president. It is not only of shift in political priorities from Republicans to Democrats but a change in the image of America and a statement that anything is possible for those who persevere.

Obama, the son of a black Nigerian father and a white, working class mother from Kansas, epitomizes the American dream. He never doubted for one moment that a black man could reach the White House. But in his quest for the nation's highest office he never portrayed himself as black, but rather as an American.

He campaigned for change and hope and won the hearts of Americans of all races and backgrounds to win a landslide in the election last November.

America and the world have great expectations for the new president. It's not only because of the message that propelled him to power, but also because of the dismal failure of his predecessor, George W. Bush.

"Yes, we can!" was his promise. Now it is time to deliver.

Obama promises he would shake things up and deliver change but he has also asked for patience.

There are those who are so enthralled by Obama they believe he can walk on water but Obama knows he's just a man.

And he understands more than anyone else that the next four years would present him with his greatest challenge ever as he grapples with domestic and international issues while tring to heal deep wounds and bring his nation together.
