Dog or angel? You judge!

We take many things for granted in our daily lives, like the love and loyalty we get from dogs and the miracles we sometimes witness and often ignore. One such story unfolded last August in La Plata, Argentina.

News reports say a dog, known as La China, found an infant who had been abandoned outdoors in temperatures just about five degrees above the freezing mark.

The animal's maternal instincts kicked in and La China miraculously carried the 4 kg baby 50 metres to her home where she cuddled her in a pen with her own six puppies, keeping her warm.

The Reuters news agency quoted the Argentine newspaper La Nacian as saying the dog's owner, a farmer named Anze, heard the naked baby girl's cries and found her being kept warm among the puppies. He called police, who took the baby a hospital.

Egidio Melia, director of the Melchor Romero hospital, told television and newspaper reporters that the baby was just a few hours old when she was found, and was in good health although she had some bruises, but no bites from China.

Police located the 14-year-old girl who gave birth to the baby outdoors during the night. She is getting psychiatric care and the baby is fine.

As for China, she was quite confused about all the attention she was getting.

Watch the BBC report.

Please note that while local Argentine media reported that the infant was a girl some international media said it was a boy. Whatever the gender, people are calling China their new hero.
