U.S. president-elect Barack Obama on Monday officially nominated Hillary Clinton as his secretary of state and asked current Defence Secretary Robert Gates to remain in that post. Obama, who takes office on Jan. 20, made the announcement during a news conference in Chicago.
He also named Arizona Gov. Janet Napolitano as homeland security secretary, Eric Holder as attorney general, retired Marine Gen. James Jones as national security adviser and long-time adviser Susan Rice as ambassador to the United Nations.
